On-Demand Image Processing
iaza is an ad-supported web-service that I
wrote and brought online in 2007. It is targetted
towards younger people, particularly those who don't
own serious desktop graphics programs
but wish to
apply lots of fun and interesting effects to their images. A fair number of
these images are photos, however the center of gravity for iaza is actually
artwork of various forms: anime, dolls, avatars etc. With iaza, animating
images, making transparencies and applying a wide array of special effects
is a snap.
There are a number of vc-funded on-demand image processing sites out there.
Typically these are heavy flash-based sites that focus on photographic images.
Basically they try to reproduce the desktop application experience on the web.
In contrast, iaza is designed
to be as plain, simple and lightweight as possible (minimal chrome, in
the current vernacular). This
makes it extremely fast and transparent. With iaza, the image is at
the center of attention - not the artifacts of the application.
Thus all the options are immediately
visible and clickable, enabling one to quickly engage and have some fun.
iaza has become increasingly popular and attracted a dedicated following.
As of early 2012, the site was averaging over 1.5 pageviews a month.
